SHS & OSU Wind Ensembles Hosting Free Concert
The
ensembles from each institution represent the top band musicians at both SHS and OSU.
“This
concert is not only a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform
alongside university-level musicians and experience what they could potentially encounter in music
beyond high school, but also a chance for the community to come listen to
outstanding music and see the talent of both the SHS and OSU Wind Ensembles,” says Kevin Zamborsky, Director of Bands for
Stillwater Public Schools.
The
concert is open to the public and free to attend. A livestream of the concert will also be produced by
the SHS Technical Theatre program and available on the SHS Performing Arts
Center YouTube page at www.stillwaterschools.com/PAClive.
This will
not be the first, or the last time the SHS and OSU Band programs will
collaborate together. SHS and OSU
students from the French horn, tuba, and euphonium studios have played together
at past concerts. The SHS Wind Ensemble has also had the opportunity to perform
at the McKnight Center for Performing Arts and the SHS Pep Band has played with
the OSU Spirit Band at basketball games in Gallagher-Iba Area.
Additionally,
both bands will collaborate again at the McKnight Center on March 9 for a
concert with SHS and OSU clarinet students, and on April 2 with the SHS and OSU
bassoon students. Tickets for both of these concerts may be purchased through
the McKnight Center’s website.
“We
have tremendous community support for music education in Stillwater, as well as
a great
relationship with the Greenwood School of Music at OSU,” said
Zamborsky. “We
appreciate the time they invest in our students, and hopefully the experience
is just as beneficial for students at Oklahoma State as well.”
