First in Class; Stillwater & Perkins marching bands earn top honors
EDMOND, Okla.
– For the second year in a row, the
Stillwater Pioneer Marching Band and the Perkins-Tryon Midnight Regiment took
home top honors for their respective classes at the Deer Creek Invitational.
The Pioneer Marching Band’s
2025 show, entitled, “Bach in the Saddle,” earned first place honors in Class
AA during the afternoon’s preliminary competition when bands compete with each
other based on the size of their high school.
The Midnight Regiment also earned top class honors, finishing first in
Class A for their show, entitled, “Masters of the Keys.”
Both bands were selected as
finalists at the competition, where the top twelve bands, regardless of school
size, perform in the evening competition. In finals performance, Stillwater
placed second overall and Perkins-Tryon placed sixth. The Midnight Regiment
also earned Fan Favorite honors. Edmond
Santa Fe High School took home first place overall.
“Our band has a large number
of underclassmen and, for many, this was their first competition so I was very
pleased with the results, as well as the improvement the band displayed from
their preliminary to finals performances,” said Kevin Zamborsky, Director of
Bands for Stillwater Public Schools. “The audience feedback and interaction
with our show was incredible to experience, and I know our students fed off
that energy, especially in the finals performance.”
For the Midnight Regiment,
the Deer Creek Invitational offers a chance for their students to compete with
larger schools than they will see at their state championship competition in October.
“Our students have worked
incredibly hard and they gave two tremendous performances yesterday,” said KG
Robinson, Director of Bands for Perkins-Tryon Public Schools. “We were the only
non-6A school to finish in the top six which is a great achievement for our
band.”
The Pioneer Marching Band
competes next at the Mustang Marching Invitation hosted by Mustang High School
on October 4, and then the Renegade Review hosted by Union High School on
October 11. Both contests host some of
the best high school bands in Oklahoma as well as schools from surrounding
states.
“It’s going to be a very important
two weeks between now and our next competition,” added Zamborsky. “Our goal
will be to see consistent performance from each rehearsal to the next, and I am
excited to see our show continue to improve.”
For Perkins, the band’s next
competition will be the OBA State Championship hosted at Edmond North High
School on October 11. At OBA, the Midnight Regiment will compete for a Class 3A
state title based on OSSAA classification.
