SCG Prepares for Winter Guard Contest Season

STILLWATER, Okla.Stillwater High School’s color guard program, SCG, is preparing for their competitive Winter Guard Season to get underway, with competitions around the state of Oklahoma and regional contests in Kansas City and Tulsa.

Winter guard is a competitive, performance-based activity which incorporates choreographed dance, and equipment such as flags and prop rifles. The season begins in early February and will run through April.

SCG will have two guards performing during the 2025 season. SCG Blue will perform “Break the Code” while SCG Gold will present “Dandelion.”

“Blue's production is high energy and invites audience members to join in on our journey as we make our way through code and ultimately break through as a representation of standing proud to be an individual.” said SHS Color Guard Director Darin Williams. “Similarly, Gold's production centered around a simple dandelion takes from the lyrics that though at times we may feel like a weed in the garden, there is still beauty in each of us.”

Williams is in their twenty-first year of marching arts instruction, including four years as Color Guard Director for Stillwater High School.  Williams is excited about the growth of Stillwater’s program and progress of their students.

“After completing 7 seasons in my time here I can without a doubt say that this year's members of Blue are the epitome of the growth of the program. Strong skill backed up by the willingness to have a good time and entertain audiences. “Williams added.  “While Gold, standing 21 members strong, is a representation of the continued trajectory for the future of SCG.”

SCG’s season officially begins on Saturday, February 8 at Putnam City West High School with performances by SCG Gold at 3:08pm and SCG Blue at 6:17pm.

SCG is under the direction of Darin Williams and part of the Stillwater Public School’s Band Program. Stillwater Bands is under the direction of Kevin Zamborsky, Tricia Bailey-Bovenschen, Megan Perkins, KG Robinson and Katie Genevro and serves nearly 550 students in grades sixth through twelve in the Stillwater school district.
