Pioneer Marching Band plans community performance ahead of State Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – In preparation for the Class 6A Oklahoma Bandmasters Association State Championships, the Stillwater Pioneer Marching Band will host a free community performance on Friday, November 1 at 7:00 pm at Pioneer Stadium.

The performance of their 2024 show, entitled “Bloom,” will simulate what the band will experience the following day at the OBA State Championships at Broken Arrow High School. The Pioneer Marching Band will perform for the Class 6A2 State Championship at 3:45 PM on Saturday, November 2 in preliminary performance.  That evening the top 12 bands regardless of class, will compete in Finals.

The band is coming off one of its most successful contest seasons in recent memory. In their last performance at the Renegade Review at Union High School in Tulsa, the Pioneer Marching Band scored above an 80 for only the third and fourth times since at least 1998, and it was the first time the Pioneers scored 80 or higher in preliminary and finals performance at the same contest.   The band had previously won their class at both the Deer Creek Invitational and the Mustang Marching Invitational earlier in the season.

“I am very proud of the hard work and improvement our students have shown throughout contest season this year,” said Stillwater director of bands, Kevin Zamborsky. “The community performance will be the only time our full show will be presented in Stillwater, and the last time our 32 seniors will perform in Pioneer Stadium, so we hope to have a large crowd to support our students and prepare them for OBA.”

The Pioneer Marching Band is a regular finalist in state and regional marching competitions. Stillwater is the reigning bronze medalist at the Oklahoma Bandmasters Associations state championship and was the state academic champion in 2023. The band is under the direction of Kevin Zamborsky, Tricia Bailey-Bovenschen, Megan Perkins, KG Robinson, Katie Genevro and color guard director Darin Williams.
